What is TEF Canada?

The Test d'evaluation de francais (TEF) Canada is a French language proficiency test recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It evaluates your French skills across four areas: listening comprehension (CO), reading comprehension (CE), written expression (EE), and oral expression (EO).

Study Strategy

Start by understanding the test format. Each section has its own timing and question types. For listening and reading, focus on understanding the main idea first before diving into details.

1. Build Your Vocabulary

Focus on everyday French vocabulary related to work, housing, healthcare, and public services. These are the most common topics in TEF Canada.

2. Practice Listening Daily

Listen to French podcasts, radio, and news for at least 30 minutes daily. Radio-Canada and RFI are excellent free resources.

3. Time Management

Practice with timed tests to build speed. The real exam has strict time limits, so you need to be comfortable working under pressure.

Registration

You can register for TEF Canada through authorized test centers in your country. The test fee varies by location but typically ranges from $300-$500 CAD.
