Overview
Both TCF Canada and TEF Canada are accepted by IRCC for immigration purposes. The choice between them often comes down to personal preference and availability in your area.
Key Differences
Test Provider
TEF is administered by the Paris Chamber of Commerce (CCIP), while TCF is administered by France Education International (formerly CIEP).
Format
Both tests are computer-based and evaluate the same four skills. However, the question styles and scoring methods differ slightly.
Scoring
TEF uses its own scoring scale that maps to CEFR levels and Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). TCF directly reports CEFR levels.
Which Should You Choose?
Try sample tests for both exams and see which format feels more comfortable. Both are equally accepted for PR and citizenship applications.
